About Us....

The Shreveport Womens Golf Association was formed in 1933 for the purpose of promoting good fellowship and friendly competition among local amateur women golfers. Ladies in this association (SWGA) must have a handicap index of 30.0 or less.

Our sister group, the Shreveport Senior Womens Golf Association, was created for the same purpose, but includes only ladies who have reached at least their fiftieth birthday.
Ladies can be members of either or both organizations as long as they meet the eligibility requirements and pay the appropriate membership dues to each group. This membership entitles ladies to play at least once (in each association) at each of the six golf/country clubs that are participants in the SWGA and SSWGA groups: Bomber Bayou Golf Club, East Ridge Country Club, Huntington Park/Querbes Golf Clubs, Northwood Hills Golf Club, Golf Club at Stonebride, and Southern Trace Country Club.

Barbara Faye White Cup (aka) SWGA Team Matches

Barbara Faye White Cup (aka) SWGA Team Matches is in the history book!!

This year, because of changes in Associate Club memberships changing demographically, our East and West Teams changed to Team Titleist (BWGA and STCC) and Team Pinnacle (WGAS, NLGA, ERLGA, and BLGA.

Forty seven ladies played during the two-day competition of 2-lady scramble, match play format on September 16 and 26.
Let's start with Day 2:  Team Titleist won the BFW Cup Championship!!! It was close...9.5 to 8.5!  Titleist team went into Day 2 with a 3 point lead, but Team Pinnacle came back strong on Day 2 and give a great effort.
Since the BFW Cup started in 2009, we've never had last minute cancellations, but this year we had two emergencies that couldn't be avoided.  A special thanks to Audrey Northcutt (BWGA) who played alone against her two competitors on Day 1 and to Karen Calvert (BWGA) who played as a single on Day 2 and also won her match.  Also, a huge thank you to Becky Farr who was an alternate for Team Pinnacle.  She got a call at 7:20am on Day 2 asking if she could play, and she was there and ready to go with time to spare!
Congratulations to all the players!  You are ALL winners!

And thanks to Daneita Adams, Team Matches Chairman, who had never even PLAYED in Team Matches before this year, for putting on a great tournament in spite of the many unusual challenges this year.
We are looking forward to next year's BFW Cup which will be held at the Golf Club at Stonebridge.

SSWGA Playday at Southern Trace

It's been just over 2 1/2 months since our last SSWGA event! Seems impossible, but we finally got to play at Southern Trace on September 24th. Yep, it was still hot as blazes but it was fun since the course was in such good shape (as usual).
Broadmoor ladies took all the overall honors with the Low Gross score of 89 by Nancy Young, Low Net by Cathy Buckley with 75, and Low Putts of just 29 by Daneita Adams. Good golfing ladies!
I didn't get an opportunity to take any pictures since we started our shotgun a little early, so all I have is the "Results" page.
(Blog will not allow me to insert a picture at this time.)

It's time to start signing up for the next SSWGA playday which is October 10th at Bomber Bayou. This is the one that you have to provide your name as it appears on your driver's license, your driver's license state and number, your date of birth, and the last four digits of your social security number. Once again, if you THINK you might play submit this info to your club rep ASAP. You won't be able to add your name to the list at the last minute.
For those of you playing in the Barbara Faye White Cup (aka) Team Matches, see you tomorrow at Huntington to see who this year's winners will be. Team Titleist is up by 3 points over Team Pinnacle, but there are nine more points to be won tomorrow!!!

SWGA Playday at Bomber Bayou

A great turnout for a hot August playday:  Bomber Bayou hosted the SWGA group on August 29th with (appropriately) 29 ladies!  Before I forget, a big THANKS to the club for the hospitality and the wonderful lunch provided at no cost to us….a great surprise!

Now, to the numbers….Our SWGA Champion, Mary Lynn Stuart (ERLGA) had no problem negotiating the slow greens…or anything else….and scored a wonderful 72, eight strokes better than the closest contender: Mary Moore (BLGA) with an 80.  The lowest overall Net score (other than Mary Moore’s 62) was 65 by Judy McGrew (BLGA), followed by Mon Airhart (BWGA) with a 67.  Good golfing, ladies!  Overall low putts was also Mon Airhart with just 26 putts!!  Next fewest putts was 28 by Kathy Davis (BLGA).  Good putting ladies.  I know you had to be POUNDING THOSE PUTTS!  Check out the photo for all the flight winners.

We had a successful Woody’s goodies day also, with numerous bags of needed items as well as about $100 cash donations.  Thanks for your support!

Our next SWGA event is Team Matches which will be held September 16 and 26 at Huntington.  This is a 2-lady scramble, match play event, pitting Team Titleist (BWGA, STCC, and WGAS) against Team Pinnacle (NLGA, ERLGA, BLGA).  If you haven’t signed up yet, please contact your Club Rep no later than September 6th.  Remember, if you missed an SWGA event during the year, participation in Team Matches is a “make-up” for that missed day.

SWGA Championship

Who would have thought that we would have such perfect weather for a Championship in the middle of July?!?  It was beautiful and the course was its usual beautiful venue for the SWGA Championship at Southern Trace CC.  Twenty-seven ladies participated in this event….enjoying SOMETHING about it…..the golf, the food, the course, the prizes, the friendships.
But to the nitty-gritty…..Lillian Granger (STCC) led the field after the first day, shooting 84, and thus, winning the Medalist award.  But Mary Lynn Stuart (ERLGA) came on strong on Day 2 causing a tie between the two, resulting in a sudden death playoff.  Mary Lynn shot 86/77 and Lillian shot 84/79.  It took only one sudden death hole to determine the Champion.  This is the TENTH time Mary Lynn has won, starting back in 1976!!!  Congratulations!

Brenda Graves (BLGA) shot lights out too, winning Net Medalist honors as well as Net Champion with two day net scores of 70/70.  Overall Low Putts went to Gina O’Neal (for the second year in a row) with a nice 61 putts.  Congratulations ladies!

SSWGA Playday at Northwood GC

Twenty-three ladies started and nineteen tough ladies finished the SSWGA playday at Northwood on July 9th.  IT WAS HOT!  Heat index was well over one hundred degrees with very little, if any breeze.  Since the course had a lot of rain a couple days earlier, much of the rough wasn’t cut, making playing conditions even harder.  But as usual, the Northwood hospitality was A-1!

The low gross score of the day was 83…..a tie in the Regular Senior Flight…..between Cathy Buckley (BWGA) and Vicki Cella (NLGA).  The low gross in the Super Senior Flight was 86 by Joyce Middleton (ERLGA).

In the Regular Senior Flight of ten ladies, the low net score (not counting those that had low gross scores) was an 70 by Brenda Graves (BLGA) who also had an EAGLE chip-in).  Low net in the Super Senior Flight  of nine ladies was 69 by Gayle Gansfuss (NLGA).

Overall low putts for the day was 28 by Brenda Graves and Pam Crews (NLGA), followed by a 29 by Grace Ireland (NLGA).

Our next SSWGA event isn’t until September 24th at Southern Trace CC.  More details to follow.

Since we had back-to-back SSWGA and SWGA events this week, our Woody’s contributions were combined.  Besides a stack of “goodies”, there was $83 donated to the Home for Vets.  They were very excited about our generosity.  Keep it coming!

SWGA Playday at Huntington Park

Cart Paths Only and 100 degree heat make for a grueling day of golf, but twenty-eight ladies started the adventure and twenty-five finished the SWGA playday on June 27.  Huntington was in great shape considering they had tons of rain and severe winds the night before.  There were tree limbs and debris scattered all through the water-soaked course.  If it was your first time to play there since it was re-done a few years back, you need to come back when it’s dry.  It will be a whole new experience.

The low gross score of the day was an amazing 85 by Joyce Middleton (ERLGA), followed by three scores of 91.  Low net of the day was a 73 by Mary Moore (NLGA), followed by a 74 and four 75’s.  Low putts on the really smooth (but slow because of the rain) greens was 31 by Mary Moore and Hui Bordelon, followed by a 32 and three 33’s.  Good golfing, ladies!

And we were just as successful with our Woody’s donations one this day.  Besides the great group of “goodies” and watermelons that were delivered prior to playday, there was $140 in cash donations.  The Woody’s group were elated when presented with our great donations.  In case you don’t realize it, WE ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE in the lives of these veterans!  Thank you for all your support!

Our next SWGA playday is at Southern Trace on July 10 and is also serving as the practice round for the Championship on July 24 and 25.  Even if you are not playing in the Championship, July 10 is a regular playday and you should contact your Club Rep asap to let her know if you are playing.  Also included in this post is an entry form for the Championship.

SWGA Playday at Northwood Hills GC

Right slap in the middle of SUMMER, we were blessed with a cool front for the SWGA Playday at Northwood Hills on Tuesday, June 11.  Thirty ladies enjoyed a beautiful day with the usual Northwood hospitality and lots of fun, except for Judy McGrew who got moved from one group to another two or three times!  But she handled it very well.

Mary Lynn Stuart (ERWGA) took top overall gross honors, shooting a really nice score of 80, followed closely by Brenda Graves (BLGA) with a not-too-shabby 82.  Good golfing gals!  Overall low net for the day was a score of 68 by both Brenda Graves and Joyce Middleton (ERWGA).  Overall Low Putts was 28 by yours truly, Kathleen McCoy (BWGA), followed closely behind by Joyce Middleton and Jan Lea (NLGA), both with a nice 29.

There were nine birdies shot by six ladies, with the popular birdie hole being #10.  Congrats!

We had a good collection of necessities for Woody's Home for Vets, including $35 collected that day.  We decided to include a jar for monetary contributions for those ladies who "forgot" to bring their non-perishable goods for the home.  Afterall, money will also buy what they may be needing.  The money jar will be available for both SWGA and SSWGA events and good will continue to be collected and delivered to Woody's where they are welcomed with very large smiles!  WE ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE LADIES!
