About Us....

The Shreveport Womens Golf Association was formed in 1933 for the purpose of promoting good fellowship and friendly competition among local amateur women golfers. Ladies in this association (SWGA) must have a handicap index of 30.0 or less.

Our sister group, the Shreveport Senior Womens Golf Association, was created for the same purpose, but includes only ladies who have reached at least their fiftieth birthday.
Ladies can be members of either or both organizations as long as they meet the eligibility requirements and pay the appropriate membership dues to each group. This membership entitles ladies to play at least once (in each association) at each of the six golf/country clubs that are participants in the SWGA and SSWGA groups: Bomber Bayou Golf Club, East Ridge Country Club, Huntington Park/Querbes Golf Clubs, Northwood Hills Golf Club, Golf Club at Stonebride, and Southern Trace Country Club.

Squire Creek Invitational

The Squire Creek Invitational was held September 12th this year and I'm a bit late in getting even the little bit of info I have to share.  There were many, many of our local Shreveport/Bossier ladies in the tournament, but it was next to impossible to catch up with everyone prior to tee time as everyone was scattered in all directions.  I got very few pictures and I don't have a list of winners, but the leaderboard pictures are included in the slideshow pictures.  Enjoy what little there is.....

SWGA Playday Southern Trace

Our playday at Southern Trace that was originally scheduled early in the year was rained out, but the make-up round on September 11th couldn't have been a more beautiful day.  The course was beautiful and the hospitality wonderful.

Low score of the day was shot by Kathy Davis of Southern Trace.  In fact, Southern Trace ladies swept all the gross and net winning positions.  Second gross score was by Lillian Granger, also of Southern Trace.  Is there a little home course knowledge going on here?  Great playing gals.

Overall low net for the day was a tie between Bobbie Joe Almond (PCC) and Kathleen McCoy ((BWGA) with scores of 68.  Overall low putts of 30 was also a tie between Donna Cobb (BWGA) and Kathleen McCoy.

Putting was a real challenge today it seems, with putt totals ranging from 30 to 50!!!!  That's an average of 37.5 putts per lady!  So don't feel like you were the only one putting ALOT!

For a complete list of winners, we the right hand column of the blog.

The next SWGA event for this year is the Team Matches.  Please contact your Club Rep to get more information and express your feelings about the future of team matches.  This year we are committed to Olde Oaks and we are looking at changing the format to a "shamble" on both days, with handicap so that everyone will be playing on an even field.  We'll be meeting about it very soon, so make your feelings known.

SSWGA Championship

These thirty-seven ladies endured the torturous heat for two days September 5-6 at the Golf Club at Stone Bridge to vie for the Shreveport Senior Women's Championship. Let me repeat: it was brutally hot! And so was the competition. The format was a bit different this year with the Championship Flight playing from the red tees, while the remainder of the players played from the forward silver tees.
After the first day of play, Mary Jo Gray (WGAS) had taken the Medalist honors with her great score of 83 while Linda Colvin played "lights out" and won Net Medalist with her net score of 66 (Gross 88).
After the second day, Paulette Lee (WGAS) and Medalist Mary Jo Gray were tied with 174, but using the USGA playoff rules (lowest score for back nine holes on the second day), Paulette took the Championship honors scoring 87/87, with a back nine of 44 compared to Mary Jo's 49. It was great playing for both ladies.
Overall Net Champion was Becky Farr, coming out of the First Flight with whopping scores of 88 and 82 (the lowest score posted during the event), and a net total score of 130.
Putting scores ranged from a daily total of 28 to 45, but the Overall Putts winner was Margo Myatt (STCC) with a total of 62. Great putting, Margo!
Closest to the Pin winners were Linda Colvin, Paulette Lee, Mary Jo Gray, and Martha Lawhorne (BWGA). Longest Drive winner was Becky Hollier (WGAS).

Other winners were:
CHAMPIONSHIP FLIGHT:
Low Gross: Mary Jo Gray (WGAS) 174

2nd Net: Mary Coker (STCC) 139

SSWGA Playday Fox Run

Only twenty-two ladies signed up for today's playday at Fox Run.  Obviously, everyone didn't see the weather report, as it was fabulous weather......and the rough and been cut to a decent length, making playing much more pleasurable.  The greens were slow, but so are we "seniors", right?
The overall low score of the day was posted by Mary Gallagher (FRLGA) with a very nice 88, followed by a tie with a score of 90 by Shirley Pettitt (BWGA) and Teri McGuire (WGAS).  Overall low net was by Barbara Offer (BWGA) with a sweet 72, a great return from her recovery hiatus.  Runner up was Donna Cobb with a 74.  Overall low putts was a really great 28 by Vicki Cella (NHGC).  Congratulations to all the winners.   See the right column for full list of winners.  The next SSWGA event is the Championship at Stonebridge on September 5-6.  If you haven't already signed up, DO IT NOW.

LWGA State Senior Championship

Okay, ladies, for all of us who complain about competing against the "junior" golfers (you know, the ones we call the "flat bellies"?)......THIS IS YOUR CHANCE TO SHINE!  This one is for the "oldies but goodies!"

The 21st Annual LWGA Senior Championship is being held October 1-2, at a fabulous and fun venue this year:  Koasati Pines in Kinder, LA.  We've played other state tournaments there, but never the senior, so this might be a first for some of you.  And what a wonderful FIRST!

The course is challenging, but very playable.  You can be assured of a great time at Koasati and the Coushatta Casino and Inn.  The price offered for the rooms is as great as the venue.  Our last tournament was a sell-out, so don't delay in signing up for this one.  Click here for loding info.  Click here for more info and the program guide.  Click here for entry form.

Hope to see you there!

Road Runner 2012

As you can see above, it's again time for the annual Road Runner 2-lady scramble at East Ridge.  The $90 per person entry fee includes the Welcome Cocktail Party on Wednesday evening, full breakfast buffet on tournament day, practice balls, one mulligan, lunch, and prizes.  The practice round on Wednesday is an additional $20 (a great price!).

The course is in great shape and there is always fun for all.  Don't wait to sign up.  You might not have a spot.  For more information and entry form, Click Here.
