It's time again for the Senior Olympics events to kick off in the Northwest Louisiana District. There are countless games in which to participate from March 26 to May 31st.
Obviously, this post is to encourage you to participate in the GOLF EVENT on April 22nd, held at Northwood Golf and Country Club, 5000 Northwood Hills Drive, Shreveport, LA. There is a Chip and Putt contest that precedes the golfing that day and starts at 8:30am. The Golfing event starts at 9:30am. The facility fee of $35 includes both events and has in the past included a luncheon.
This is a "scratch" event so your handicap doesn't come into play as you are competing in "age" brackets. The top three in each age bracket (male and female) win Gold, Silver and Bronze medals which automatically qualifies you to compete in the State Event later in the year, usually in South Louisiana. You can go all the way to the National event if you stay in the winning categories. You can also qualify to move on to the State event based on your score.
For more information and entry form, Click Here. Be sure to click on the Participant Information and Game Schedule tabs at the top of that page for more information.

SWGA Annual Meeting/Luncheon
Shreveport CC was the venue for the Annual SWGA Meeting and
Luncheon to launch 2016’s golfing activities…. to say goodbye to the old
Officers, to welcome the new, and present the End of Year Awards for 2015.
Forty-seven ladies, over half of our membership, enjoyed the
food and fellowship, as usual, since we have few opportunities to simply
”visit” as a group.
All Officers reported on their areas of responsibility and
it was a tremendously successful year, in spite of numerous event
re-schedulings due to bad weather. We
had four stroke play events, the two-day championship at a totally new and
neutral venue (Huntington Park), three scramble events, and an amazing Team
Match two-day event that ended in a tie.
What a year!
Events Chairman Moise Allen started the End of Year Awards
presentation with those who had attained 100% participation for 2015, which was
the first time we tried a new system.
If any member missed one “required” event, but participated in at least
one Team Match event, they were still considered as having 100%
participation. We had nine ladies who
attained a TRUE 100% participation:
Bobby Jo Almond, Cathy Buckley, Hui Bordelon, Gayle Gansfuss, Grace
Ireland, Martha Lawhorne, Mary Moore, Jill Litton and Marge Snyder. Five ladies missed one regular event, but
played in at least one day of Team Matches: Vicki Cella, Kathy Davis, Carmen
Leach, Joyce Middleton, and Mary Lynn Stuart.
Gross, net, and putt awards were based on your lowest four
scores in each area. The Low Net Awards
were decided by hundredths of a point.
1st Low Net: (Avg. 69.1) Gayle Gansfuss,
FRLGA2nd Low Net: (Avg. 69.20) Hui Bordelon, FRLGA
3rd Low Net: (Avg. 69.25) Vicki Cella, NHGC
4th Low Net: (Avg. 69.5) Mary Moore, FRLGA
The low gross awards were just as close: 1st Low Gross: (Avg. 79) Mary Lynn Stuart, ERCC
2nd Low Gross: (Avg. 79.75) Kathy Davis, STCC
Low Putts winner was Kathy Davis with an average of 29. Great putting!
The most improved Handicap Index award went to Martha Lawhorne,
BWGA, after decreasing her index by 4.5 points. That’s great!
2015 President Kathleen McCoy introduced the new Officers
for 2016:
President: Joyce Middleton, ERCC
1st VP (Championship): Suzanne Tinsley, WGAS2nd VP (Team Matches): Jimmie Zey, NHGC
Secretary: Mary Moore, FRLGA
Treasurer: Moise Allen, STCC
Events: Martha Lawhorne, BWGA @ SCC
The Club Reps for 2016 are listed in the right hand column
of this blog.
McCoy announced that this year, we will be paying $30
for each of our playday events, an increase of $5 from the past few
years. Our first SWGA event is a
scramble at Fox Run on St. Patricks Day (March 17), so wear your green! Hope to see you there!

Jingle Bell Scramble
Jingle Bell, Jingle Bell, Jingle Bell Scramble….
Over twenty-five years ago, the annual Jingle Bell Scramble
became a tradition that brings the Shreveport Senior Women’s Association and
Shreveport Women’s Golf Association together to participate together at
Northwood Hills Golf Club. It is also
one of our opportunities to “play it forward” by donating to the Toys for Tots
program handled by the Marine Corps.
This year’s scramble consisted of thirty-seven ladies who
“layered up” for the cold weather that warmed up into a beautiful sunny
day. In spite of all the recent rain,
the course was nicely manicured and the greens were in great shape. To keep it that way, we had cart paths only,
but it was just a nice walk in the sunshine.
Of the nine teams, scores ranged from 65 to 74 with four
teams having a 71, which was par for the day.
Shooting the fine 65 score was Team Debbie Magee, Gayle Gansfuss, Sandra
West, and Grace Ireland.
Congratulations ladies!!!
After play, a lovely buffet lunch was served and enjoyed by
all. Thanks to the Northwood ladies for
their warm hospitality and wonderful “goodies” as usual.

SWGA Turkey Scramble
For years, our SWGA Turkey Scramble was hosted by Palmetto
CC. With the demise of Palmetto,
Shreveport Country Club hosted this year’s scramble, with forty ladies
participating on thirteen teams. The
weather was ideal, especially for this time of year, the course was in good
shape, and Golf Pro John Schurman and the SCC staff welcomed everyone.
Scores ranged from 69 to 81. Sixth place required a scorecard playoff between four teams. All ladies vied for Closest to the Pin on
the same hole, and Gloria Utley showed off with her 26 inch putt….and yes, made
the birdie. Winners received Dick’s
Sporting Goods gift cards. Results are:
