About Us....

The Shreveport Womens Golf Association was formed in 1933 for the purpose of promoting good fellowship and friendly competition among local amateur women golfers. Ladies in this association (SWGA) must have a handicap index of 30.0 or less.

Our sister group, the Shreveport Senior Womens Golf Association, was created for the same purpose, but includes only ladies who have reached at least their fiftieth birthday.
Ladies can be members of either or both organizations as long as they meet the eligibility requirements and pay the appropriate membership dues to each group. This membership entitles ladies to play at least once (in each association) at each of the six golf/country clubs that are participants in the SWGA and SSWGA groups: Bomber Bayou Golf Club, East Ridge Country Club, Huntington Park/Querbes Golf Clubs, Northwood Hills Golf Club, Golf Club at Stonebride, and Southern Trace Country Club.

SSWGA Turkey Shoot

THE WEATHERMAN WAS WRONG!  What was supposed to be a nice, sunny day ended up being quite cloudy and almost COLD.....but twenty-nine ladies persisted....and finished with smiles.  It ended up being a great day of golf and fun.
A 73 got the First Place honors for the team of Gayle Gansfuss, Grace Ireland, Donna Guenard-Taylor, and Joyce Middleton.

Second place went to the team of  Tina Essler, Linda Christiansen, Theresa Kruse, and Tommye Engelcke with a score of 74.  There was a tie for third place with a score of 76, which was broken by a scorecard playoff.  Third place went to Teri McGuire, Joanne McDonald, Charlotte Calhoun, and Bea Roach; and Fourth place was Mary Coker, Jimmie Zey, Jeanette Bohringer, and Jean Brown.

SWGA Turkey Shoot Scramble

What a great day of golfing fun!  Forty-six ladies showed up on the foggy morning, but quickly shed their sweaters in the clear, unseasonably warm temperature.

The twelve teams scored very well on this day with a range from 65 to 75.  The First Place team of Suzanne Tinsley, Donna Cobb, Jeanie Ward, and Phyllis Coulson really did well scoring seven birdies and all the rest pars.

Second place was a tie with a score of 67.  The scorecard playoff was still tied with the 1st handicap hole, but the second handicap hole was birdied by Team Gray and parred by Team Pettitt.  Second place team was Mary Jo Gray, Kathleen McCoy, Becky Hollier, and Pat Rice.  Third place was Shirley Pettitt, Linda Heins, Jane Smith and Grace Ireland.

Three teams scored 69, so once again the scorecard playoff was the determining factor.  And once again, it was Hole #10 that broke the tie.  The Fourth Place team was Joyce Middleton, Judy Ferguson, Gayle Gansfuss, and Carolyn Phillips.

We had three Closest to the Pin winners:  Hole #3: Jeanie Ward (12'11"); Hole #11: Donna Cobb (6'6"); and Hole #17: Paulette Lee (3'4").  Closest to the Line was won by Cathy Buckly, who I understand was right on the line.

Congratulations to all the winners.  We're hoping you plan to play in the Jingle Bell Scramble on December 2, again at Palmetto Country Club, 10:00am shotgun start.

Several of the local Golf Clubs also have links and if your club has a website that you would like to have included on the blog, let me know.
