About Us....

The Shreveport Womens Golf Association was formed in 1933 for the purpose of promoting good fellowship and friendly competition among local amateur women golfers. Ladies in this association (SWGA) must have a handicap index of 30.0 or less.

Our sister group, the Shreveport Senior Womens Golf Association, was created for the same purpose, but includes only ladies who have reached at least their fiftieth birthday.
Ladies can be members of either or both organizations as long as they meet the eligibility requirements and pay the appropriate membership dues to each group. This membership entitles ladies to play at least once (in each association) at each of the six golf/country clubs that are participants in the SWGA and SSWGA groups: Bomber Bayou Golf Club, East Ridge Country Club, Huntington Park/Querbes Golf Clubs, Northwood Hills Golf Club, Golf Club at Stonebride, and Southern Trace Country Club.

SWGA Playday at Crooked Hollow

Due to difficulties at their home course, the Northwood Ladies Association hosted their SWGA playday at Crooked Hollow on May 20th.  It was a beautiful day with a really nice turnout of thirty-five players.  As usual, John Graham and his crew welcomed our group with warm hospitality.

The overall low gross score of the day was an very nice 85 shot by Shirley Pettitt (SCC)....and I have to add that one of her holes was an eleven!  Without that blowup, it really would have been a fabulous score!  Low net for the day was an amazing 63 by Melissa Brenner (NHGC).  She says she was having an "out of body experience".  Whatever it was, it was good!

Rally for the Cure Tournament

Fox Run Golf Course at Barksdale AFB is hosting a Rally for the Cure 4-person scramble on Friday, June 20th.  This is 4-PERSON....not 4-lady as we usually see on this blog.  So get your hubby and put together a team.  Or get a group of ladies and show your support.  The tournament fee is $20 per person which goes 100% to the Northwest Louisiana Komen Association.  The regular green/cart fee will apply.  For civilians, it is $30 per person.  For more information and instructions on signing up, Click Here.

Southern Belle

Southern Trace Country Club was filled with lady golfers on May 6-7 as 114 ladies participated in the Southern Belle 2-lady invitational.  This is probably one of the most value-packed tournaments in our whole area with two days of golf on a beautiful course with lighting-fast greens, good food and entertainment, excellent coordination, wonderful tee gifts, and thought-provoked awards.
The format of shamble best ball on the front nine and regular scramble on the back nine makes for a challenging, yet fun-filled day of golf.  When the scores were tabulated, one of Southern Trace’s own ladies and her partner were the overall gross winners with a super score of 68.  Kathy Davis and partner Amy Johnson were elated over their win as you can tell when you look at the slideshow presentation.
And just behind Kathy and Amy by just one stroke gross with a 69 were the overall net winners Kim Darnell of Stonebridge and partner Tammy Trichell with the 63.1 low net score of the day.  Congratulations ladies!

The Putting Contest was a big hit this year with a lot of activity on the putting green.  There was a single putt, about 45-50 foot long.  Each team had a chance to putt and the distance from the hole was measured and added together.  The team with the shortest combined distance were the winners:  Shirley Pettitt and Kathleen McCoy with just over 5 feet distance.

Special events included closest to the hole, straightest drive and best dressed.  See the pictures for all the winners.

We want to give a special thanks to all the sponsors of the event, especially Jimmy Granger Ford, who made this tournament so rewarding.  Once again this year, tee gifts were very nice Nike golf shoes.  As my partner and I played through the day, each time we made a less-than-desirable score, we simply said “but we got SHOES!”  It helped us keep a fun attitude and winning spirit, even when we knew we weren’t winning…..because “we got SHOES!”

And speaking of shoes, one of our local golfers, Gayle Gansfuss from Eastridge CC, sends out a message to all of you Size 8 ladies:  if you find a sock in your shoe box, it’s hers and she would love to have it back.  Somehow her shoe box got switched with someone else’s.  I’m sure that’s just one of many fun stories that happened during this event.  If you know of others, let me know and I’ll add them.

Have fun looking through the slideshow presentation.  Hope you see yourself somewhere.

SSWGA Playday at Eastridge

Eastridge Country Club was the site of the SSWGA Playday on April 29th.  A few of the thirty-one ladies who participated didn’t come dressed for the unseasonably cool weather of this late April day, so rain suits that were “stashed away” in golf bags were drug out to combat the wind.
The course was beautiful and in good condition after the prolonged winter season, and the ladies enjoyed the golf and getting to see many new faces this year.

Mary Coker (SCC) took the overall low gross honors with a very nice 88 while Barbara Offer (SCC) posted the overall low net score of 65.  Way to go ladies!  And here are all of the winners:

Low Putts (tie): Cathy Buckley (SCC) and Linda Colvin (PCC) 33
