Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Golf Classic

The second annual Golf Classic benefiting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is being hosted at East Ridge Country Club on April 30. Our own Phyllis Ryan is handling this project and she is in need of volunteers to help with the event. A lot of you volunteered last year and had a great, fun time!

Cars to be given away on all Par 3’s! In addition to watching for the hole-in-ones, she needs people to sit and watch Kyle Sawyer (long drive champion) smoke em over the ditch on 11 and take money for him hitting their ball; someone to take money on two holes for paying to move up to the ladies tee or whatever new they come up with this year.

Watching for the hole-n-one on #9 will be tricky because it is also a betting hole. Volunteers will have to watch for hole-n-ones and watch to see if they hit the sideof the green marked and stay to double a bet. The JDRF Board itself will run the bottom of the hill. Thats about it!

The banquet this year is on Sunday night prior to golf on Monday. Great auction items will be available for volunteers who choose to come! Free wine/beer and a cash bar in addition to the $25.00 Prime Rib Buffet (paid by volunteer). Lunch is free for the first shift (11:30am - 3:00pm).

If you are interested in helping and want to support a great cause, contact Phyllis at 318-872-4802 or email her at

SWGA Annual Meeting/Luncheon

SWGA's Annual Meeting and Luncheon was held this year at Stonebridge Country Club, after many years at the University Club, which closed this past year.  But Stonebridge stepped right up to the plate and took great care of us.

Forty-five ladies attended the luncheon meeting and if you didn't come, you missed out on a special treat given by Stonebridge:  two free rounds of golf for each non-member who attended the luncheon!!  How nice was that!!

2011 President Becky Farr presided over the meeting as each officer made presentations on their area of responsibility.

Events Chairman Gayle Gansfuss presented the End of Year Awards, all of which were increased from previous years since our budget allowed it this year.  Seven ladies had 100% participation:  Jill Litton And Marge Snyder of NHGC; Cathy Buckley, Kyong Lee, and Shirley Pettitt of BWGA; Teri McGuire, WGAS; and Jimmie Zey, PCC.  This is a great achievement and the ladies received VISA cards for $30 for their efforts.

Other End of Year Awards included the Most Improved Golfer, Pat Miller (BWGA) who improved her handicap by 3.4 strokes!  She received $20.

Other awards were:
1st Low Putts:  Marge Snyder (NHGC)
2nd Low Putts: Teri McGuire (WGAS)
1st Low Net: Kyong Lee (BWGA)
2nd Low Net: Jill Litton (NHGC)
3rd Low Net: Martha Lawhorne (BWGA)
4th Low Net: Jimmie Zey (PCC)
1st Low Gross: Teri McGuire
2nd Low Gross: Marge Snyder

The lowest gross score during our playdays was 78, shot by Teri McGuire and Marge Snyder.  The second lowest was 80, shot by Lillian Granger (STCC).  The lowest net scrose was 60, posted by Kyong Lee and Marge Snyder.  The lowest putts in all our playdays was by Marge Snyder with 24.

Becky Farr presented the new slate of officers for 2012:
President: Jill Litton (BWGA)
First VP: Mary Gallagher (FRLGA)
Second VP:  Donna Phillips (STCC)
