About Us....

The Shreveport Womens Golf Association was formed in 1933 for the purpose of promoting good fellowship and friendly competition among local amateur women golfers. Ladies in this association (SWGA) must have a handicap index of 30.0 or less.

Our sister group, the Shreveport Senior Womens Golf Association, was created for the same purpose, but includes only ladies who have reached at least their fiftieth birthday.
Ladies can be members of either or both organizations as long as they meet the eligibility requirements and pay the appropriate membership dues to each group. This membership entitles ladies to play at least once (in each association) at each of the six golf/country clubs that are participants in the SWGA and SSWGA groups: Bomber Bayou Golf Club, East Ridge Country Club, Huntington Park/Querbes Golf Clubs, Northwood Hills Golf Club, Golf Club at Stonebride, and Southern Trace Country Club.

2014 SWGA Annual Meeting/Luncheon

SWGA ladies started the new year of golf activities with the Annual Business Meeting and Luncheon on Friday, January 10.  Sixty ladies enjoyed the venue of East Ridge Country Club and the buffet luncheon was excellent.  A big “thank you” to the East Ridge staff.

The annual meeting gives us a chance to re-visit the previous year’s activities and concerns and welcome the new year with hope of a successful year filled with golfing fun and fellowship.  It is also the platform for moving our officers from their old positions to their new assignments.

The new officers for 2014 are:
Lillian Granger (STCC) President
Kathleen McCoy (BWGA), 1st Vice President
Joyce Middleton (ERCC), 2nd Vice President
Jimmie Zey (PCC), Secretary
Suzanne Tinsley (WGAS), Treasurer
Marge Snyder (NHGC), Events Chairman
Mary Moore (FRLGA), Publicity

The ladies that you will deal with the most for all our events are the Club Reps at your individual clubs.  You need to keep their emails and phone numbers close at hand.  The Club Reps for 2014 are:
Broadmoor: Joanne McDonald
East Ridge CC: Gayle Gansfuss
Fox Run GC: Jerry Hobson
Northwood Hills GC: Jill Litton
Palmetto: Alyce Wyche
Stonebridge CC: Becky Hollier
Southern Trace CC: Vien Wheeler

Presentation of the 2013 End of Year Awards was made by Events Chairman Suzanne Tinsley.  This year was a record year for 100% participation with twelve ladies receiving the award….

Donna Cobb (BWGA), Shirley Pettitt (BWGA), Kathleen McCoy (BWGA), Hui Bordelon (FRLGA), Cathy Buckley (BWGA), Vicki Cella (NHGC), Mary Gallagher (FRLGA), Gayle Gansfuss (ERCC), Jill Litton (NHGC), Joanne McDonald (BWGA), Phyllis Ryan (ERCC), and Marge Snyder (NHGC).

To qualify for End of Year awards, you must have at least five stroke-play event scores.  If you have more than five, the lowest five scores are used in figuring the winners.  All winners got gift cards from Dick’s Sporting Goods.

The Low Gross score average went to Mary Lynn Stuart (ERCC) with an average 81.4 and 2nd Low Gross scorer was Lillian Granger (STCC) with 83.8.

There was a tie for the Low Net score of 71 and that was shared by Gayle Gansfuss and Martha Lawhorne (BWGA).  Third place was  Shirley Pettitt with a 72.2 and 4th place was Bobbie Jo Almond (PCC).

The best putting average for the year was 31.4 putts by Kathleen McCoy followed closely by a tie for second place with 31.6 for Suzanne Tinsley (WGAS) and Vicki Cella.

The most improved handicap index award went to Suzanne Tinsley who went from a 14.6 to 10.2.  That’s some good golfing!

Congratulations to all the winners!  Let’s try to make a new record for participation next year!!!

Mary Moore at Fox Run announced that Fox Run has been opened to the public.  She provided forms that must be completed and returned to the Base.  Once the security clearance is done, you will be notified to go to the visitor’s center at the West Gate of the Base.  They will take your picture and give you the pass.

After you have the pass, you can get on Base to play golf anytime you want by simply showing the pass.  Every person entering for that reason must have a pass.  The cost of play is $30 and they are offering the first day you play for FREE!  Can’t beat it!

If you were not at the meeting or did not get a form, CLICKHERE to download the form.  Information regarding the rates is included in THIS DOCUMENT.  After you complete the form, you can scan it and email it to william.duckworth@us.af.mil

Another change for 2014 is an increase in playday fees from $20 to $25.  We really can’t complain since it has been eight years since our last increase.

2014 1st VP McCoy invited everyone to this year’s SWGA Championship that will be held at the new venue for the BWGA ladies who have moved their group to Shreveport Country Club.  The Championship will be held  September 10-11.

The entire schedule of SWGA events, State tournamenets, and many of the invitational tournaments are listed on this blog near the bottom of the page.  As soon as the dates are announced, SSWGA dates will be added.
