About Us....

The Shreveport Womens Golf Association was formed in 1933 for the purpose of promoting good fellowship and friendly competition among local amateur women golfers. Ladies in this association (SWGA) must have a handicap index of 30.0 or less.

Our sister group, the Shreveport Senior Womens Golf Association, was created for the same purpose, but includes only ladies who have reached at least their fiftieth birthday.
Ladies can be members of either or both organizations as long as they meet the eligibility requirements and pay the appropriate membership dues to each group. This membership entitles ladies to play at least once (in each association) at each of the six golf/country clubs that are participants in the SWGA and SSWGA groups: Bomber Bayou Golf Club, East Ridge Country Club, Huntington Park/Querbes Golf Clubs, Northwood Hills Golf Club, Golf Club at Stonebride, and Southern Trace Country Club.

Nikki Patterson Invitational

The 4th Annual Nikki Patterson Invitational Tournament was held at Stonebridge Country Club on Wednesday, June 27th, in memory of past Stonebridge member Nikki Patterson. Once again, the 4-lady scramble was a tremendous success with 116 participants.

Festivities started on Tuesday with the practice round and a wine and cheese social that included lots of food besides cheese. Everyone enjoyed this social part of the competition.

It was tremendously hot with temps reaching the 100+ degree point, but everyone hung in and there were some really good scores posted. When all was said and done, the best score of the day was 63 posted by the team of Storey/Yager/Walters/Thomasson. Congratulations ladies! A complete list of winners follows.

LWGA State Four Ball

The eleventh annual Best Ball tournament is hosted this hear at Contraband Bayou Golf and Country Club in Lake Charles, August 5-7.  The $400 per 2-lady team includes a highly discounted practice round ($35) on Sunday,  a Welcome Party on Sunday, lunch on Monday and dinner at Contraband that evening, and awards luncheon on Tuesday.
This is the first time we've played a state tournament at Contraband, so now is the time to take advantage of this opportunity to play a really beautiful course.  If you've never stayed at the L'Auberge Casino, it is a real treat.  The pool area has a lagoon running through the tiki village area and you can ride air tubes through the lagoon to "people watch".

Entries are limited to the first 58 teams and must be received by July 25th, so don't delay.  For more infomation and entry form, Click Here.

Your Alarm System

Whether you realize it or not, you have your own private security system....usually in your purse.  This is to tell you to PUT YOUR CAR KEYS BESIDE YOUR BED AT NIGHT.

Tell your spouse, your children, your neighbors, your parents, your Dr's office, the check-out girl at the market, everyone you run across. PUT YOUR CAR KEYS BESIDE YOUR BED AT NIGHT.

If you hear a noise outside your home or hear someone trying to get in your house, just press the PANIC button for your car. The alarm will be set off, and the horn will continue to sound until either you turn it off or the car battery dies.

This tip came from a neighborhood watch coordinator. Next time you come home for the night and you start to put your keys away, think of this: It's a security alarm system that you probably already have and requires no installation. Test it. It will go off from most everywhere inside your house and will keep honking until your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the keyfob chain. It works if you park in your driveway or garage.

If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break into your house, odds are the burglar/rapist won't stick around. After a few seconds, all the neighbors will be looking out their windows to see who is out there and sure enough the criminal won't want that.

And remember to carry your keys while walking to your car in a parking lot. The alarm can work the same way there.

This is something that should really be shared with everyone. Maybe it could save a life or a sexual abuse crime.

LWGA State Match Play Championship

The Louisiana Womens Golf Association held it’s 84th annual Match Play Championship at Beau Chene Country Club in Mandeville June 2-6. This year’s field was small with only sixty-four ladies participating, perhaps because it was earlier in the summer when kids were just starting vacations? In any event, it was a beautiful venue, with towering oaks adorned with lazy, weeping Spanish moss overhanging water hazards and making a lovely backdrop for the countless bunkers strategically located on the course.

Sixteen ladies played in the Championship Flight and the final matches pitted Heather Lott against against Julie Harrison, both of Baton Rouge. After 18 holes, it was Heather who prevailed, winning her first LWGA Amateur title after being in the final match three times. Harrison, the 2004 LWGA Champion, has been finalist six times and is the reigning LWGA Senior Champion.

Thirteen-year-old Anna Heine of Baton Rouge won Championship Consolation in 23 holes over Pam Fossett of Lake Charles.
Only six of our own Shreveport area ladies participated in the event this year, but four of the six made it to the final matches, and three of the four were finalist winners. Mary Jo Gray (WGAS) won first place in the Third Flight, Martha Lawhorne (BWGA) won second place in the Sixth Flight, and Debbie Magee (WGAS) won first place in the Fourth Flight Consolation Flight. Kathleen McCoy (BWGA) lost the final match in the Fifth Flight Consolation Flight. Teri McGuire (WGAS) and Donna Cobb (BWGA) didn’t make it to the finals, but put on a great fight against good players, tough course, and extremely hot weather conditions. Congratulations to everyone!
