It was a HOT and WET two days of the SWGA Championship at
Stonebridge after a week of rain, but the course was in good shape in spite of
it. However, if you were planning on
your ball “rolling”, you had to make other plans.
Twenty-seven ladies laced up their waterproof golf shoes and
waded through water for the two days of cart path only. But the water didn’t deter Mary Lynn Stuart
of Eastridge CC, as she shot a great 76 the first day to win the Medalist
Trophy, and followed it up on day two with a 74 to win the Championship. This isn’t a new experience for Mary Lynn,
however, as this is the eighth time since 1976 that she has achieved this
honor. Congratulations Mary Lynn!
The low score for Net Medalist the first day was an incredible
60 by Suzanne Tinsley, also of Eastridge CC, climbing her way to this position
from the second flight! She came back
the second day and shot the same score, which gave her the Net Champion
Trophy. Congratulations Suzanne!
Overall low putts for the day was a super low 57 by Becky
Farr of Stonebridge CC. Her 57 putts
for two days was over 10 strokes better than the average putts for the entire
field! That’s some good putting!
In spite of the wet conditions, everyone had a good time and
enjoyed lunch and fellowship after getting in out of the heat to wait for the
tournament results. Thanks to Debbie
Magee who took over the Championship duties at the last minute and was able to
make it a great success.
