About Us....

The Shreveport Womens Golf Association was formed in 1933 for the purpose of promoting good fellowship and friendly competition among local amateur women golfers. Ladies in this association (SWGA) must have a handicap index of 30.0 or less.

Our sister group, the Shreveport Senior Womens Golf Association, was created for the same purpose, but includes only ladies who have reached at least their fiftieth birthday.
Ladies can be members of either or both organizations as long as they meet the eligibility requirements and pay the appropriate membership dues to each group. This membership entitles ladies to play at least once (in each association) at each of the six golf/country clubs that are participants in the SWGA and SSWGA groups: Bomber Bayou Golf Club, East Ridge Country Club, Huntington Park/Querbes Golf Clubs, Northwood Hills Golf Club, Golf Club at Stonebride, and Southern Trace Country Club.

Playday at East Ridge Country Club

What a beautiful day to kick off our 2012 golfing season as forty-eight ladies participated in the playday at East Ridge CC on Thursday, March 15th.  Many ladies adorned St. Patrick's Day green which matched the beautiful new growth on the course, and everyone demonstrated high spirits for this first outing of the year.

The results of the playday are listed in the right column and you will notice there were MANY ties.  Overall low gross for the day went to Suzanne Tinsley with a whopping 86, followed by Shirley Pettitt and Marianne Leslie with matching 89's.   Low Net was Brenda Graves who also took overall low putts with just 28.

The next SWGA Playday will be at Querbes Park Golf Club on April 26 with a 9:00am shotgun start.  Forty-eight ladies now have 100% participation, so let's strive to keep it going.  Sign up for Querbes.

Change in USGA Rules on GPS/Phone Devices

For those who participate in the Louisiana Women's Golf State Tournaments, this information could keep you from being disqualified, so please take heed.

In the past, we have been permitted to use GPS devices as long as they measured ONLY distances.  The use if iPhones, iPads, and tablets were permitted as long as they were capable of measuring distances ONLY.

Beginning this year, the use of those type devices as GPS for golf WILL NOT BE PERMITTED.  You can continue to have your cell phone with you for use in an emergency or to call the pro shop for rulings, but that's it.  And as usual, they should be placed on vibrate or silent during play.

The use of golf GPS devices are still permitted as long as they measure distance only.

For full details, please read the flyer that can be accessed by clicking here.

Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Golf Classic

The second annual Golf Classic benefiting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is being hosted at East Ridge Country Club on April 30. Our own Phyllis Ryan is handling this project and she is in need of volunteers to help with the event. A lot of you volunteered last year and had a great, fun time!

Cars to be given away on all Par 3’s! In addition to watching for the hole-in-ones, she needs people to sit and watch Kyle Sawyer (long drive champion) smoke em over the ditch on 11 and take money for him hitting their ball; someone to take money on two holes for paying to move up to the ladies tee or whatever new they come up with this year.

Watching for the hole-n-one on #9 will be tricky because it is also a betting hole. Volunteers will have to watch for hole-n-ones and watch to see if they hit the sideof the green marked and stay to double a bet. The JDRF Board itself will run the bottom of the hill. Thats about it!

The banquet this year is on Sunday night prior to golf on Monday. Great auction items will be available for volunteers who choose to come! Free wine/beer and a cash bar in addition to the $25.00 Prime Rib Buffet (paid by volunteer). Lunch is free for the first shift (11:30am - 3:00pm).

If you are interested in helping and want to support a great cause, contact Phyllis at 318-872-4802 or email her at par72_90@bellsouth.net
