Just a "heads up"
Just want you to know that you may be seeing less pictures here on the blog because Google has changed things so much that I can't find anything that will work consistently for posting slideshow presentations and it takes way too much room to post pictures individually. Therefore, when I send out a notice that I've updated the blog, if there are pictures to view, I'll try to include them with the email. Sorry about this, but Google is giving me fits.

2017 SWGA Annual Meeting/Luncheon
SWGA 2016 President Joyce Middleton hosted our annual meeting and luncheon at her home club Eastridge Country Club on January 13, 2017. Fifty-three ladies turned out to welcome the 2017 Officers and Reps, thank the 2016 group, congratulate the End-of-Year award winners, and socialize with each other in a way that can't be done while on the golf course.
After an outstanding lunch, the 2016 officers gave their respective reports and we were surprised and elated to end our year with a tad bit more money than we started with. Events Chairman Martha Lawhorne then presented the End-of-Year awards as follows:

SWGA/SSWGA Jingle Bell Scramble
Brrrrr. Twenty-nine bunded-up ladies braved the cold, wet conditions and were on standby up till the last moment the night before the December 6 Jingle Bell Scramble. There had been lots of rain and we weren't sure if it would happen or not, but these determined ladies showed up and enjoyed what is always a good time just before the rush of the Christmas holidays.
Northwood Hills Golf Club hosted the annual event and as usual, it was terrific. The Northwood ladies even cooked the food themselves for the luncheon and it was GOOD! The course was in great shape, especially considering the harsh weather that preceded the tournament. Management outdid themselves to make us all feel welcome.
Ten groups of ladies competed against each other, with scores ranging from 70 to 81. There was a whole group of 75's that had to find their place after scorecard playoffs. When it was all counted, the first place team of Tinsley/Airhart/Engelcke shot a really great 70. Other winners were:
SECOND PLACE: Graves/Litton/Tatum - 73
THIRD PLACE: Gallagher/Wyche - 75
FOURTH PLACE: Pettitt/Crews/Ronda Smith - 75
FIFTH PLACE: Moore/Suzanne Patton/McCoy - 75
CTP #3 - Vicki Cella
CTP #16 - Gayle Gansfuss
CTL - Joyce Middleton
This was the last event of the 2016 season for both the SWGA and SSWGA. The next event is the SWGA Annual Luncheon/Meeting on January 13, 2017, at Eastridge Country Club, 11:30am.

FIFTH PLACE - 73 Fisher/Snyder/Kathy Davis (NW)/Gilley

SWGA Turkey Scramble
Eighty-five degrees on November 3rd? Yep.
It’s been awhile since we played the SWGA Turkey Scramble while wearing
shorts and wishing we had brought the portable fan.
Of the seven teams, six had scores in the 60’s. The best score of the day was a 65 by team
Shirley Pettitt/Gloria Utley/Kathleen McCoy/ and Kathy Davis (of
Northwood).
But twenty-eight ladies came out to participate in the
4-person Turkey Scramble at Crooked Hollow, hosted by the Broadmoor Women’s
Golf Assn. And it was a great day of
fun and socializing. As usual, John
Graham made us welcome and cooked hamburgers and all the fixings for the awards
luncheon.
2016 SSWGA Championship
A foggy morning greeted the ladies participating
in the SSWGA Championship on November 1st. Luckily, the fog lifted shortly after teeing off and it got
unseasonably warm. As usual, the course
was beautiful and the ladies were challenged by the undulating, fast greens.
After two days of stroke play, Moise Allen rose
to the challenge, winning the championship with duplicate scores of 91, which
also gave her Medalist honors. In Super
Senior division, Joyce Middleton won the champion trophy with scores of 94/93,
which also gave her the Medalist trophy for that division. Congratulations to both ladies for some good
golfing.

2016 Southern Belle
Another successful Southern Belle 2-Lady tournament! Ninety-six ladies enjoyed the fun and
competition on October 11-12 in beautiful weather and social events at Southern
Trace Country Club.
Of the 48 teams, our Shreveport area ladies accounted for
NINE of the winning teams. The overall
tournament winners were our own Kathy Davis (STCC) and Debbie Magee (WGAS) with
a score of 68 which tied with team Delaughter/Horn from Texarkana, who won
overall Low Net.
All participants were treated with a choice of Nike
products: either a pair of shoes, a
wind jacket, or a nice bag with a dozen Nike golf balls. The tee gift at this tournament is always a
large treat.
