By now, those of you who use the Louisiana Golf Association for your handicapping system have received an email giving your current Handicap Index AS OF JANUARY 15th. When I saw my email, I wondered if I had slept through half a month, because we always get this information on the 1st of the month.
According to Lee Rainwater of the LGA, the USGA has adopted a national revision schedule which all golf associations in the U.S. must begin using no later than 2012. The LGA, the governing body for amateur golf in the state of Louisiana, has chosen to implement this schedule one year early.
The new Handicap Revision schedule took effect on January 1, 2011. It is important to note that, beginning in 2011, revisions must be provided on the first and fifteenth of each month. All Louisiana clubs must follow this revision schedule in order to issue approved USGA Handicap Indexes to their members. So, Louisiana golfers maintaining a USGA Handicap Index will now get twice as many revisions throughout the course of a year.
