For those of you who have never played in the Wine and Roses 2-lady scramble, you have missed a real treat. These Alexandria CC ladies know how to "pass a good time".
Sixty-four ladies participated in this event on Wednesday, April 14, but the fun started the evening prior with a lively social event complete with a live band, wine, margueritas, and good food. You haven't lived till you watch a group of ladies dancing....with or without a dance partner. The band was "groovy", the food was "tasty" and the drinks were "plentiful". It was great fun.
Twelve of our SWGA ladies made up six teams, and although we didn't have but one winning team, we all felt like winners. Four of our six teams were in the championship flight, so the competition was tight. Winning third place in that flight was Robbie Gaienne/Phyllis Ryan with a 77, edging out Donna Cobb/Martha Lawhorne (78), Moise Allen/Mary Coker (79), and Joyce Middleton/Teri McGuire (80). The remaining two teams were in the first flight: Gayle Gansfuss/Kathleen McCoy (79) and Judy Pratt/Charlotte Calhoun (85).
The tournament awards luncheon features lovely tables adorned with luscious homemade cakes stacked high on pedestals so that diners can meander from table to table to find which "treat" to sample for dessert. Bottled wine tee gifts and beautiful roses complete the table settings.
